Codec problem watching DVD

Post by 52fighters » Sun Nov 10, 2019 6:31 pm

I'm newish to Linux and just bought a DVD player for my laptop. I've followed everything I could find online about codecs for DVD movies on Linux. No luck. This is the error output I get:

Hi 52fighters,

It would help to know more about your system setup. If you run "inxi -Fxzd" and "lsusb" from the console terminal prompt, highlight the results, copy and paste them back here, that should provide enough information.

Looks like the DVD was not decoded properly. Have you installed the 3rd party software during mint installation (mint-meta-codecs)? If not do so.

Recommend installing these packages as well.

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install libdvd-pkg ubuntu-restricted-extras
Links with good information.

I fixed the problem. I used "regionset" to set the DVD player to play DVDs for the USA.

Hi 52fighters,

You are welcome...

That' great your able to play your movie DVD's now. My DVD players and burners would not play movie DVD discs either until I used "regionset" to set the country code as well.
