Update Manager fails: Google Earth NO_PUBKEY 78BD65473CB3BD13

Post by dpsw56 »

Code: Select all

GPG error: http://dl.google.com/linux/earth/deb stable Release: The following signatures couldn't be verified
because the public key is not available: NO_PUBKEY 78BD65473CB3BD13
The repository 'http://dl.google.com/linux/earth/deb stable Release' is not signed.
I'm getting this notice all of a sudden. I running Mint cinnamon 19.1 on a dedicated Dell inspiron i560.
Not sure if it's related to installing Google Earth few days ago.
But this did just start. after reviewing the post i went into software sources found some keys to down load but not sure witch one? :?:
Yes that red X keeps popping up in the download manager icon. I hit refresh and it seems ok for a while.
Then the red X later in the session.

<Mod>
Split off from this thread: red x after updating but updates installed?, because NO_PUBKEY is a totally different root cause than what missmoondog had reported about.

Hello, dpsw56.

Seems as if Google have changed their Google Earth signing key recently.
The same problem has been reported and solved recently at minimum twice.
Please, try sleeper12's solution > here <.

Code: Select all

 sudo apt-key adv --recv-keys --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com 78BD65473CB3BD13

Code: Select all

 sudo apt update
Note:
+ first close all applications like Update Manager, Software Sources and Software Manager, if any of them is open.
+ next open a terminal window.
+ in the terminal window execute the 2 commands, which sleeper12 had posted
+ provided both commandlines succeed without error messages, try Update Manager again.

Karl

Karl;

I am having this problem (NO_PUBKEY 78BD65473CB3BD13) but when I try the suggested commands, I get a failure message, "Connection timed out"...
reorx@freedom-20:~$ sudo apt-key adv --recv-keys --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com 78BD65473CB3BD13
[sudo] password for reorx:
Executing: /tmp/apt-key-gpghome.PkJkwsxKz5/gpg.1.sh --recv-keys --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com 78BD65473CB3BD13
gpg: keyserver receive failed: Connection timed out
reorx@freedom-20:~$
I have been trying for the last 3 days but no success!...

Any suggestions???

Thanx,

 wget -q -O - https://dl.google.com/linux/linux_signing_key.pub | sudo apt-key add -
