How can I save all messages from Viber on Linux?

Post by pepperminty »

I have Viber on my Android phone. I don't plan to use it in the future. I now want to back up (download) all the message history into to some human-readable format; Android Viber has a setting that lets you back up to your Google Drive, but it's not human-readable, and is only usable for restoring back into Viber (onto the same phone number).

In older Viber versions, there was a way to email message history to yourself or save to a folder on the phone. That isn't the case anymore.

Because of my lack of success on Android, I thought of installing Viber for Linux from https://download.cdn.viber.com/cdn/desk ... /viber.deb . I then ran Viber for Linux, and it then synced all the messsages from my phone to my Viber.

Now, my question is this: Given that the messages are now on my Linux Mint computer, how can I save all these messages in CSV or some human-readable format?

In synaptic, I search for Viber then click on properties, then "installed files". here is the list: https://pastebin.com/raw/eyAvNsFZ . will that list help us locate the messages?

The messages are probably under your $HOME; try this;

Code: Select all

find $HOME -iname "*viber*"
to viber's files or directories
Please edit your original post title to include [SOLVED] if/when it is solved!
Your data and OS are backed up....right?
