Geany highlighted text is not copied into the paste buffer

Post by lperg »

In Geany 1.32, highlighted text is no longer copied into the buffer for middle-click pasting either within Geany or from it to another application. On the other hand, copy/paste works perfectly well within other programs (Kate, Gnote, pico, nano, Pale Moon, Firefox, Gnome terminal, etc), as well as from them into Geany. This is a new phenomenon that started when I upgraded Mint from 19.2 to 19.3 two days ago, and it is the only problem I've encountered (so far...)
Quad Core Intel Core i5-4570 64 bits
Intel Xeon E3-1200 v3/4th Gen Core Processor Integrated Graphics
x11 server: X.Org 1.20.5 driver: modesetting unloaded: fbdev,vesa resolution: 1920x1080~60Hz
Linux Mint 19.3
Cinnamon 4.4.8
Geany 1.32
Can somebody suggest a solution? Google has been of no help.

Thanks,

I'm posting from Arch Linux at the moment and with Geany 1.36 built on Gtk 3.24 no such problem occurs.
When I reboot into LM 19.3 later I'll try it.
As Geany is built with Gtk and you have stated it works ok with Gnote, , Gnome terminal,
what application does copy/paste not work ?

As far as I know, it's only highlight from Geany to paste anywhere (including itself). There's no problem pasting into Geany from anywhere else, nor copying and pasting between any other program that I tried.
An added note: I just found out that in Geany, copying to the clipboard with Control-C does not work either, while it does work with Control-Insert! Pasting works equally well with Shift-Insert and Control-V, and there is no problem with any other program.

I checked my geany install on Mint 19.3 - it's working as expected.

Code: Select all

steve@steve-Inspiron-5580:~$ geany --version
geany 1.32 (built on 2018-01-08 with GTK 3.22.26, GLib 2.54.1)
Maybe try a geany reinstall?

Code: Select all

apt install --reinstall geany
Check the keybindings in geany preferences.

Thanks, that did in fact clear the problem with CTRL-C, "copy" had no shortcut associated with it for some reason.
However, the original problem with getting highlights into the transient buffer for middle-click pasting is still there. I then decided to install the newest version 1.36 from the PPA:

Code: Select all

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:geany-dev/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install geany
Unfortunately, that made no difference. The program and its plugins have indeed been updated, (and synaptic concurs) but the highlight problem remains unchanged.
