The instructions don't quite seem to do what they say. Holding the Recent Apps button doesn't do anything except vibrate for a moment.

, and works well using an older Linux kernel, wouldn't that suggest that it's on the Linux side?
Yes, quite possibly and even likely that the problem is with Mint, but no harm in going through the possibilities with the phone.
As I don't know the phone, a very quick search brought that up. I have no idea what you have tried and what you haven't, or your level of knowledge of the phone, which will be more than mine.
Could you try the 4.15 kernel? Why were you using the 5.0 / 5.3 in the first place?
