Touchpad Problem Mint 20 LTS

Post by roshan2077 »

I have just installed linux mint cinnamon 20 LTS. from the time of installing I am having some problem with my touchpad. It seems to work just fine for sometime but once I start watching youtube videos with 3-4 tabs open OR run Rambox for some time touchpad starts acting weird and laggy. I later on noticed that if i keep my laptop open for more time like 1-2 hrs, same problem occurs. But once I restart Laptop everything becomes alright for sometime.
what might be the problem? I am new to linux and want to get stick with it.

I went to debian website to look for troubleshoot. I found this:
https://packages.debian.org/xserver-xorg-input-libinput AND https://packages.debian.org/xserver-xorg-input-evdev
Installing these helped 70% of my problem but If more than 50% ram is being used any time, mouse becomes laggy and sticky at the begining of touch. But for rest of the time it works just fine.

Hi roshan2077

There's a known problem with a few Touchpads. I wonder if you've read this, from the Release Notes.

Touchpad drivers

The default touchpad driver in this edition is "libinput" (provided by the xserver-xorg-input-libinput package).

If you experience problems with it, you can switch to another driver called "synaptics" (provided by the xserver-xorg-input-synaptics package).

To know which driver is used by your input devices, run the following command:

grep -i "Using input driver" /var/log/Xorg.0.log

When both drivers are installed, "synaptics" takes priority.

To switch to the "synaptics" driver, install it with the command:

apt install xserver-xorg-input-synaptics

Then log out and log back in.

To go back to using "libinput", simply remove the "synaptics" driver:

apt remove xserver-xorg-input-synaptics

Then log out and log back in.

Note: You can also try installing the "evdev" driver (provided by the xserver-xorg-input-evdev).

Thank you very much for ur self explanatory reply.
It seems libinput is best for me and synaptics was causing the problem.
so i uninstalled synaptics as u said.
Thank you.
