Fingerprint support mint 20 Ulyana

Post by toni_gon5 »

I've been running Mint on a Dell Vostro 3560 since mint 16.
Every iteration of mint has always supported fingerprint logon on my machine.
the ppa / launchpad Fingerprint GUI is no longer supported, so I installed libfprint with GUI because a search revealed that it was part of the distro.
But this did not work either.
Is anyone aware of any other Fingerprint GUI project that works?

I was using fprintd out of the regular sources integrated with pam. After the Upgrade I probably have to redo the pam config.

However isn't fingerprint regularly supported by Ubuntu focal? Was it removed for Mint? Would be nice to know before I mess something up.

Use fprintd (lacks gui)

Code: Select all

sudo apt install fprintd libpam-fprintd
Example code for enrolling your (i) specific finger or (ii) all your fingers:

Code: Select all

fprintd-enroll -f left-index-finger

Code: Select all

for finger in {left,right}-{thumb,{index,middle,ring,little}-finger}; do sudo fprintd-enroll -f "$finger"; done
Follow the prompt and swipe your finger across your scanner 5 times.

Finally, enable access by marking Fingerprint option with * using the spacebar key in:

Code: Select all

sudo pam-auth-update
Working for me in Ulyana, at both terminal and lock screen. :D

Not sure how I'm suppose to change the option.

Code: Select all

sudo pam-auth-update
doesn't give me an screen to change the option.

Update: Forgot to update a while back but did get the screen and added the change and everything is working. Thank you whatsis

Can you check whether your fingerprint hardware is supported or not? https://fprint.freedesktop.org/supported-devices.html
If not you might wanna try to raise an issue here for the same. https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/libfprin ... t/-/issues

Hi.
I also have a Dell Vostro 3560. I'm new to Linux with it. I installed Ulyana and after some reading, my fingerprint sensor started to work properly. When I turn on the computer I can use my finger for login, for Synaptic, for sudo etc.
But after working a while and let the computer hibernate - all the support goes away. Then I need to enter password on lock screen, on sudo and on Synaptic.
How to reactivate the fingerprint support after sleeping (hibernation)?
Thanks.

Addition (this is when sudo asks for a password instead of a finger):

wnickel@Vostro:~$ fprintd-list wnickel
found 1 devices
Device at /net/reactivated/Fprint/Device/0
Using device /net/reactivated/Fprint/Device/0
Fingerprints for user wnickel on Validity VFS5011 (swipe):
- #0: right-index-finger
wnickel@Vostro:~$ sudo ls -a /dev/net/
. .. tun

-------------------
Addition 2:
sudo systemctl restart fprintd
did the job.
