Cast / mirror Mint to TV - how?

Post by Flemur »

Hi - I'm trying to cast (is that the same as "mirror"?) from Mint 19.3 to a TV. Everything's connected with wifi to one router.

We have a Roku TV and an Amazon Firestick on another TV. I'm trying the Firestick and so far I can't get anything to show up on the TV.

I recently start using vivaldi and noticed it has "Cast" (and a similar "Play on TV" on youtube) which pops up this GUI
I think it "thinks" it's working because if you mouse-over it offers to disconnect.

On the Firestick TV the I follow the instructions here: ... =201453020

namely get to the mirror setup screen which says
"When this screen is open, guest devices can wirelessly mirror their display to
Dianne's Fire TV stick"

Then what's supposed to happen? Where is the display on the TV supposed to show up? In the screen that says "When this screen is open..", or somewhere else? Do I have to start the youtube app on the TV ...?

Thanks for any info!

Edit: in Mint 20 Xfce with exactly the same vivaldi installation and config and cache, it says "Dianne's Fire TV stick / Not supported" and youtube videos don't have the "Play on TV" icon.
Please edit your original post title to include [SOLVED] if/when it is solved!
Your data and OS are backed up....right?
