Once the final LM21 Xfce ISO is made, it is not changed at all. It is frozen at the time it is made which is why it is important to run updates after installation.

I am not involved in the decisions of what to put on the ISO, but I do not believe the Linux Mint Team would add a PPA to an ISO. Too risky because something could be added later which could cause problems.

Thanks for doing that. Knowing of a possible resolution is very helpful in the beta bug-squashing phase. It is possible they will just pull in the update later when that Xfce version is in the official repos, but I am not involved in the decision so that is just a guess on my part.

Found whilst adding Thunar back to panel, that if you keep on adding Thunar, it goes through from Thunar, then it puts Firefox up from Thunar Right Click in Whiskermenu add to panel, then adding Thunar again it adds Xfce-Terminal. After adding Terminal from Thunar app right click in Whiskermenu add to panel, carried on adding just Thunar. I deleted all icons off of panel, logged out added Thunar to panel, then Thunar again, which resulted in adding Firefox to panel, added Thunar again which yes you guessed correctly added Terminal from Thunar App. I will go back to 4.16.3 and see if it is doing the same in there? If it is, then at least we know that upgrading to 4.16.4 disables the panel disappearing or being deleted. This Thunar thing has me stumped.

This topic is specifically about the "announcement" of the beta. It is not for reporting issues. You can create a new topic on the forum (make sure to specify you are troubleshooting a LM21 Xfce Beta issue) and seek help from others in troubleshooting.

Beta? I'd never noticed beta releases before, is it me or is it new?

They exist since LM 2. More than 15 years.

Those looking to get it a little early, now can, as it's available in the 'stable' folder as of hours ago now ;)

I might play with it a bit in a VM or on my backup computers before opting for it on my primary PC as I think all of the stuff I use should work. should be a solid release.

Please wait for the official release blog post which will have all the necessary notes and documentation. That blog post will also be announced on this forum.

While this is not a bug on Mint's end, I just noticed that the 'stable' Wine from official Wine website does not currently work on Mint 21 (i.e. "E: Unable to locate package winehq-stable"). but I suspect it's because there has been no 'stable' release for Ubuntu 22.04 yet as the current v7.0 was released early this year (Jan 2022) before Ubuntu 22.04 was released which I think was April or so (it appears that way by looking in the folder which probably explains that error). so, at least currently, one has to use either the 'development' or 'staging' branch if they want to use Wine from the official Wine website on Mint 21 as when trying to run the command for those (I tried 'Development') it attempts to go forward with the installation like expected, but I prefer to stick with 'stable' since unless someone really needs a really recent version, usually the newest stable is good enough.

but I know that the typical method the Mint team recommends (apt install wine-installer) will still work, but it's a older version of Wine, which appears to be v5.0.3 (or 6.0.3(?)).

but I just thought I would mention this for those looking to use a newer version of Wine. at least currently there is no 'stable' release for Ubuntu 22.04 (which as you already know is what Mint 21 series is based on).

so while I might still play around with it in a VM, I suspect it's probably a good idea for me to wait a while (maybe by v21.1 roughly 6 months from now it will be safer by then, as from what I can tell it seems they release a 'stable' version once a year, so roughly another 6 months from now) before switching from Mint v20.3-Xfce to Mint 21 series, especially on my primary computer.
