21.1, stuck after installation

Post by deejaystar »

Hello, guys! On this hardware GIGABYTE B760M GAMING X DDR4
Intel Raptor Lake, Core i5 13500 2.5GHz box, Mint 21.1 stops after a normalish installation. I can only install it in compatibility mode, installation follows as normal, but in the end, my PC gets stuck at the boot up animation (GIGABYTE logo). I tries disabling fastboot, editing priority boot order (though after installation first boot was set to SSD) and many more for more than 8 hours.
In the end, I tried 20.3, which worked with normal installation (not compatibility), but both during installation and after that I lost internet connection and there was some "hardware acceleration missing" error. I connected the phone to the PC in cable tethering and tried several kernels. 5.13.0-21 restored interned connection, but hardware acceleration didn't fix no matter what. Now, I have run out of options.
Please help!

Here is how to boot into compatibility mode after install
https://askubuntu.com/questions/38780/h ... led-ubuntu
https://askubuntu.com/questions/1431652 ... x-graphics

I really think Linux distributions shouldn't set the GRUB_TIMEOUT to 0 by default. It may look pretty when all is well but makes error fixing a lot harder.

Here I assume you are running Intel iGPU, not Nvidia display card. If you can boot into your Linux installation afterwards and connect to internet, go to terminal and run

Code: Select all

sudo apt install linux-oem-22.04c
to get the latest Linux 6.1. Then you may clean up the nomodeset to see if the computer can bootup normally again.

Try the 21.1 edge edition:
https://www.linuxmint.com/edition.php?id=287

Try it on the live install USB. Don't install it unless it is working perfectly.

I accessed the links above. I can't connect to Internet.

Please type this in a terminal:

Code: Select all

inxi -Fxxxmprz
Post the output to this forum in "Code" tags. The button that inserts these tags is marked </>, which is in the mini toolbar above the edit box where you type your reply.

It worked.
What I did was use nomodeset, then I installed it normally, after that I updated it, used nomodeset for restart and finally I updated the kernel and all went fine. Thank you!

Try the 21.1 edge edition:

I was going to say, 'There's an Edge edition for 21.1' but you've made a typo that link is 20.1.
