Only Two Bars on Mint WIFI
I have a triple boot system, Mint, Windows 10 and Ubuntu. On Win 10 and Ubuntu I get four bars on the WIFI out of four. On Mint I only get two bars on WIFI out of four. Is there any thing I can run in the Terminal to correct this problem?
Thank You

Re: Only Two Bars on Mint WIFI
Same issue! I'm going to join this topic too and see if we can figure this out together.
Though, if you got four bars on Ubuntu, then you got slightly further than I have. Though, I'm also focused on Mint.
Same thing, bad wifi range on adapter card, only in my case, even with good signal, stability is very bad too, even if the router sits on top of the laptop.
I'll let OP output his stats first.

Try this:
Update Manager - panel: View - Linux kernels
Install the latest kernel of the 5.15 series. Then reboot and test.

I cannot find Update Manager. I looked at this post and I do not have any of these things.

Re: Only Two Bars on Mint WIFI
You did what?
Look, I don't know the extent of the violence you've inflicted upon your Mint, but I recommend to restore an early Timeshift snapshot. Alternatively: a fresh clean re-installation.

Synaptic Package Manager was not on the Mint. I had to go to Software Manager to install Synaptic Package Manger.

No you don't. It's present by default. So you must have removed it earlier.SUPERFITTER wrote: ⤴Wed Feb 22, 2023 12:53 am Synaptic Package Manager was not on the Mint. I had to go to Software Manager to install Synaptic Package Manger.

Re: Only Two Bars on Mint WIFI
I reinstalled Synaptic Package Manager. It will not boot up, Icon in the panel will not close.
Re: Only Two Bars on Mint WIFI
The update manager should be part of the system, independant of Synaptic. It should be a taskbar icon, or search for it in search. If its not there, something is wrong.
But as for the wifi issue, I recommend trying the steps from the forum I posted about PCIe adaptor. Similar issue, but it was eventually solved and you might have luck following the same steps. I know your driver is likely different, but some links there, generously provided by Pjotr, show many more options for specific drivers, plus more are searchable in github.
Despite different drivers, I think we had the same issue. Synaptic package manager is not involved in the process. Let me know how that turns out.

Re: Only Two Bars on Mint WIFI
No. Update Manager (mintupdate) is just a graphical frontend for Synaptic. Therefore it cannot be separated from Synaptic. If you remove Synaptic, you'll break mintupdate as well.

Re: Only Two Bars on Mint WIFI
Strange. i recall installing synaptic after linux was installed via software manager. Maybe all I did was install a graphical i.terface change?
Still, I thought your reaction to "uninstalled synaptic package manager" was funny. Reminds me of the days people trashed system 32 because it took up too much space. We've all been there at some point, I think.

Sorry it took so long to get back to you. I lost electric and Internet for a week. I downloaded the new version of Linux Mint 21.1, I also Saved the two Links: sha256sum.txt and sha256sum.txt.gpg. I then hit verify and I am now lost. I ran this in the terminal and got these results. It looks like I am good to go?

all your code above is totally irrelevent or just plain wrong. You have done a re-install. Well done! What we all now want to know is whether your wifi has improved. Are you getting 4 bars? What really matters though is not the amount of bars but simply whether your wifi speeds are sufficent to meet your needs.
Looking forward to the next episode.

Re: Only Two Bars on Mint WIFI
I installed Mint 20.3 ONA in another partition. I still only get 3 bars. I can go on the internet and somethings will load and some things will not. youtube will load but I cannot run any videos, they keep trying to load and then a popup says that I am not connected. I enabled my WIFI repeater and got 4 bars, but I still had the same problems as above. I tried my email, I can get into the email but nothing will load.
