Welcome to the forum, planetrocker1.

When troubleshooting, one should take the errors in the order they occur. It appears you installed a wireless driver that did not load automatically from the Linux kernel. That is what the first error means and that error must be addressed first.

Please open the System Reports app and click the System Information tab on the left. Your computer's information should come up in the right pane. Then click the Copy button in the lower right and paste the results into a reply window here so we can see how Linux Mint views your hardware.

Please also provide the output of

This appears to be a driver that you manually installed by adding a PPA kablosuz-wireless .

That PPA is for a number of wireless drivers, such as Broadcom and Realtek, but your computer has Intel wireless hardware.
Network:
Device-1: Intel Wireless 3160 driver: iwlwifi v: kernel pcie: speed: 2.5 GT/s lanes: 1
bus-ID: 02:00.0 chip-ID: 8086:08b3
IF: wlp2s0 state: down mac: <filter>
Device-2: Realtek RTL810xE PCI Express Fast Ethernet vendor: Dell driver: r8169 v: kernel
pcie: speed: 2.5 GT/s lanes: 1 port: d000 bus-ID: 03:00.0 chip-ID: 10ec:8136
IF: enp3s0 state: up speed: 100 Mbps duplex: full mac: <filter>
Bluetooth:
Device-1: Intel Bluetooth wireless interface type: USB driver: btusb v: 0.8 bus-ID: 1-8:7
chip-ID: 8087:07dc
Report: hciconfig ID: hci0 rfk-id: 1 state: down bt-service: enabled,running rfk-block:
hardware: no software: yes address: <filter>

The Realtek in the output is for your Ethernet and it uses a completely different driver, the r8169.

I don't know what you installed because I don't see anything in that PPA list which is rtl88x2bu. I suggest you open Synaptic Package Manager and see if there is a package which looks something like rtl88x2bu version 5.2.4.4 and uninstall it.

Then remove the PPA for it from your sources.

Code: Select all

  Active apt repos in: /etc/apt/sources.list.d/kelebek333-kablosuz-focal.list
1: deb http: //ppa.launchpad.net/kelebek333/kablosuz/ubuntu jammy main
However, a big problem is it appears you upgraded with that in place instead of removing it so I don't know if it will show in Synaptic.

Your upgrade obviously did not complete properly because you are still running the 5.4 kernel and gcc 9.4.0 which one should not be using with Linux Mint 21.
System:
Kernel: 5.4.0-137-generic x86_64 bits: 64 compiler: gcc v: 9.4.0 Desktop: Cinnamon 5.4.12
tk: GTK 3.24.33 wm: muffin dm: LightDM Distro: Linux Mint 21 Vanessa base: Ubuntu 22.04 jammy

Did you take a Timeshift snapshot before you upgraded?

And how exactly did you upgrade? That might give us an idea of the best way to fix your system.

To remove them, try:

Code: Select all

sudo dkms remove rtl88x2bu/5.2.4.4 --all

Code: Select all

sudo dkms remove rtl88x2bu/git --all
Edit:Then check again dkms status. It should only show Virtualbox now if that worked.

I expect Virtualbox would still be there, but, yes, the others will hopefully be gone.

Oops, yes I forgot about Virtualbox, but the others should hopefully be gone.

SMG, when I said that, I was looking at your post which showed no Virtualbox. So, I'll blame you...yeah, that's it.:

Hello !

i am so happy i am not alone... I have nearly freaked out trying to repair or upgrade the system on my own !

Now, i have a more serious error.
I cannot Boot since last shutdown after trying to upgrade from 20.3 to 21.1 which was stopped due to a system error

but true, i tried to install a driver from GitHub repository cilynx / rtl88x2bu
but had no luck.

another error is this one
installed linux-image-5.15.0-67-generic package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 1
Errors were encountered while processing:
linux-image-5.15.0-67-generic
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)
Error - Return code: 100

i tried to remove this image and its unsigned image many times but had no luck

Do you have a Timeshift snapshot you can restore from before this all happened? You can access Timeshift from your Mint install media.

Ok, other than reinstalling Mint, I don't know what else you can do. Someone else might have an idea.

What does "I cannot boot" mean?

What exactly is happening and can you take a photo of the errors you are getitng?

I will repeat, you must focus on errors in the order they happen. Sometimes later errors happen because of earlier errors. That is why I want you to focus on the first error you see and not all the errors.

I do not understand what "I tried to remove this image" even means. You appear to be focusing on fallout from the problem instead of focusing on the actual problem.

BIOS setup happens before the operating system is given instructions to boot.

Can you boot to your install usb/dvd?

I am aware of that because you have made at least a half dozen posts across the forum in multiple topics saying that. Spamming the forum is against forum rules and is not the way to get help.

Your have already created a new topic in the Installation & Boot forum cannot Boot since last shutdown because the upgrade from 20.3 to 21.1 was stopped due to a system error for your issue, so you should post only in that topic for any future help on this issue.

I have already responded in that topic.
