Downloaded Win10 ISO file from MS SHA256 does not agree [ Resolved ]

Post by AZgl1800 »

of course the instructions are to be run in Windows PowerShell, but should not a SHA256 result be the same, regardless what OS / App is used to compute that result?

I downloaded Win10 64bit to use in Vbox, ran GTKhash on it, and got the following result.

SHA256 hash.jpg

If you download the Win10 ISO on Linux (i.e. https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/softwar ... ndows10ISO ), just check the SHA-256 on Mint through terminal, for example... 'sha256sum windows.iso'. mine shows... f41ba37aa02dcb552dc61cef5c644e55b5d35a8ebdfac346e70f80321343b506 Win10_22H2_English_x64.iso

but when I downloaded Win10 a while ago, on my initial download the hash did not match what it was supposed to be (I think download partially got cut off). so I re-downloaded it, then it matched what it was supposed to be as shown on the Microsoft site when you are downloading (which is what I posted above and matches what you got) as when downloading it shows the SHA-256 sum that the ISO is supposed to match (which is the one I posted along with what you also posted).

bottom line... I can basically guarantee you that your Win10 ISO is as it should be if it matches "f41ba37aa02dcb552dc61cef5c644e55b5d35a8ebdfac346e70f80321343b506".

okay,
I got a clean download then.

never hurts to be safe, rather than be sorry if you rush headlong into something.

Yeah, I don't blame you as when it comes to stuff like that it's best to make sure the ISO is good to ensure there are no odd issues during installation etc.

but when you go to that official Microsoft link and download the ISO, it should have a section on that same page after download is started that shows the SHA-256 hash which is how I knew my download a while ago was messed up. but after I downloaded it again, it then matched what the Microsoft site listed.

think I will download it a 2nd time, as the GTK hash is NOT matching what Microsoft is showing.
I think my Wireless Carrier introduced blip.

all of my internet sources are Wireless carriers and Gateways or Hotspot MiFi modems.

I just know that the SHA-256 hash I posted (i.e. "f41ba37aa02dcb552dc61cef5c644e55b5d35a8ebdfac346e70f80321343b506") did match what Microsoft showed on their site, which should still be valid given it's still serving "Windows 10 2022 Update | Version 22H2" which is what the ISO I have is.

even a moment ago I just went through download process and it still shows "F41BA37AA02DCB552DC61CEF5C644E55B5D35A8EBDFAC346E70F80321343B506" for 'English 64-bit' on the 'Verify your download' section.

this is just too weird,
the 2nd download zipped thru on a 5g WiFi Gateway, 12 minutes total.

but the SHA256 has is the same as my 1st download

f41ba37aa02dcb552dc61cef5c644e55b5d35a8ebdfac346e70f80321343b506

and that is what Microsoft shows when I doubled checked it.

so all is good,

I edited my post above to show you exactly what that site showed me a moment ago. but since I am replying again ill show you more precisely what the official Microsoft site is showing me right now...

on the 'Verify your download' section it shows...

English 64-bit F41BA37AA02DCB552DC61CEF5C644E55B5D35A8EBDFAC346E70F80321343B506

so what I was saying should be 100% accurate 'if' you are getting the 'English 64-bit' ISO and NOT the 'English International 64-bit' which has a different SHA-256 hash of "3AC5522F9DB9F4F432A1AADE69FEF268C8C0B5FD3F22D3A6987719752F8A7108"

given what you posted so far I think this is why you are confused (since this info matches exactly with your original post as there are two 64-bit 'English' ISO's) ;)

Took extra caution to be sure that I downloaded the English 64-bit' ISO
version and it matched the ....B506 hash

so it is valid.
