[SOLVED?] Intermittent internet cut off+event messages, TL-WN722N

Post by Fgdfgf_515 »

Hello there, I have been experiencing wifi problem since I built this machine and installed Mint. The wifi works for most of the times, but every once in a while the internet will be cut off and event messages like these would get output onto the event logger:
  • <error> [some numbers. shorter numbers] wifi-wext: (wlx2887ba492f09): error setting powersave 0
  • ioctl[SIOCSIWAP]: Operation not permitted
  • bgscan simple: Failed to enable signal stregth monitoring
Sometimes it's not ioctl[SIOCSIWAP] but ioctl[SIOCSIWFREQ].
Most of the time, the cutoff will be short and will reconnect back after 20 seconds or so. But there are times it wouldn't reconnect anymore, and I have to go to the network manager to solve the issue. When I open the network manager, I notice often I am connecting to a wifi that has a signal strength of 0, despite there is a same named wifi with positive signal strength right beside.
I duel boot my system with Windows, and I haven't encountered this issue with Windows system on the same hardware yet.
Note: my wifi card is TP-Link TL-WN722N v2

Here is my system information:

Not what I thought, but maybe a higher kernel would help.

I tried to update to 5.19 from 5.15.0-67 kernel before, the system straight up won't boot. Similar to this viewtopic.php?t=389644 topic

I'm not on 21.1, but there might be a 6.0 or 6.1 you can try in Update Manager, View, Linux Kernels.

There is no mention of anything that "6.0" or "6.1" in my Update Manager, View, Linux Kernels. It's either 5.15 or 5.19.

This should get you the latest oem kernel:

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install linux-oem-22.04c
Reboot

sudo apt-get install linux-oem-22.04c
Updating to 6.1 gives me the same issue as 5.19: system won't boot, force emergency mode.

Only other thing I can think to try is Disable IPv6:
https://easylinuxtipsproject.blogspot.c ... html#ID2.2

Maybe not related, but since you dual boot, you should also disable fast startup in Windows.

Someone else might know why you can't seem to use a higher kernel.

Disable IPv6 has no effect on the issue. The fast startup was already disabled.

Ok conclusion here, it's probably just the router in my flat is bad, and I was lucky enough when using Windows to not facing these problems... Mint is fine.
