Re: old mint and upgrade
Support for Linux Mint 19 versions stops next month.
Linux Mint 20 versions are supported until April 2025.
Linux Mint 21 versions are supported until April 2027.
If you are currently running LM19.3, then, no, you can not update from inside Update Manager.
If you want more help, please specify which version of Linux Mint you are running.

Re: old mint and upgrade
can i buy the new mint os on dvd and install it ?
Re: old mint and upgrade
This topic Upgrade Instructions (updated for LM21.1) has links to a description of what is needed to accomplish each of the series of steps between LM19.3 and the latest version available.
From 19.3 to 20 is a terminal program. How easy the upgrade might be depends on what you have installed and whether or not it can be upgraded automatically or must be done manually.
From 20 to 20.3 can be done within Update Manager.
From 20.3 to 21 is similar to the 19.3 to 20 upgrade except it has a GUI interface which makes it a little easier to do.
From 21 to 21.1 can be done within Update Manager.

Re: old mint and upgrade
I am not aware of there being any DVDs available for purchase.
I have seen usb sticks available on Amazon with Linux Mint already on them.

Re: old mint and upgrade
there is some Linux version's over on eBay . . as well.
when you consider that you can get an Five Pack of 16Gb usb sticks, for $30
& then an single stick, with Linux Mint upon it, at $16 each, is kinda expensive.
when you could still get an DvD with an Linux system upon it,
- they were an fraction of this price -

Do you have a DVD burner? Than download the edition of your choice and burn it to disc.
Do you have an USB stick? Than download the edition of your choice and burn it to stick.
There is also the option for an in place upgrade (no disc or stick needed), but it is not very reliable; I do not recommend it.

Re: old mint and upgrade
Yes, you can; but why would you?
You can download the .ISO for free, then burn the .ISO to a new DVD.

Re: old mint and upgrade
i was hoping to buy the dvd from online shop
Re: old mint and upgrade
I really do not see, where the problem shall exist to burn your own dvd. Of course you can also ask a friend to do it for you.
You can also search in the web for such offers. Besides ebay I found here a dealer. I do not know, if they are reliable. Everybody (aka dealer) can store malware on such a disk. In any case such a dvd costs with shipping up to 65 € (depending from the country) and 1 week shipping time. It makes more sense to donor this sum to Mint or to buy your girlfriend a new shirt.

Yes! Go to Start > Accessories > USB Image Writer.

Re: old mint and upgrade
I strongly doubt, that the usb image writer will burn a cd (or dvd).
But I wonder, for which purpose at all, if the dvd is already there.

Re: old mint and upgrade
I makes more sense to just download the ISO from mint itself
can i just burn the image to any USB thumb drive then ?
how to you drop the file on the usb drive ?
thanks

Re: old mint and upgrade
It sure does.
Yes you can. 4GB is large enough.can i just burn the image to any USB thumb drive then ?
It needs to be burned to the stick as an image, not just copied. The easiest way is to use the standard Mint program called USB Image Writer. It's a breeze to use.how to you drop the file on the usb drive ?

Re: old mint and upgrade
Yes, in 4 weeks the party is over. It does not make sense to install it now (except as a kind of April joke).
