I have a Dell S2817Q external display and that one is lovely and crisp. No problem.
The laptop's onboard display, however, keeps becoming [what I think of as] out of register. Characters and icons that should be all-black get blurry, with all edges fuzzy and the leading vertical portions of letters (like l [that's a lowercase ell] and t and b and h are mostly red, while the trailing verticals -- i.e., the right-hand side of each letter -- tend to be green. So, that would be vertical bar of letter "d", as well as the right-hand-side of a g, u, h, n. It's like the LCD mask slipped a little. That usually occurs awhile after waking the laptop, so it's initially crisp and clear and then goes wonky.
For perspective, that same onboard screen was fine while I had Windows loaded, and it was fine while I had OpenSUSE loaded (but they didn't include the Broadcom drivers, so I'm back with Mint).
This is not a deal-breaker; it's just annoying.
I've rebooted several times. I've disconnected the cable for the external display. No joy. I've perused settings and not seen anything that appears relevant.
Any ideas or suggestions?
Here's the list of the laptop's naughty bits:
