I have a fresh install of Linux mint. I want any new window to get focus and be put on top upon creation. I believe this used to be the default on all linux systems I ever worked on.
At present I click on a file in caja, but the new window is underneath. So when I hit alt f4 to close the caja window I no longer need, it is the opened file that closes. Which is very very frustrating, especially as the new window may be obscured completely by other windows. This does not seem like the 'correct' behaviour. I have searched the forum and come up with suggestions to access the window manager. This does not have a setting for this.
Window not on top when created.

Re: Window not on top when created.
Chances are that you have the little 'Always on top' box ticked.
Right-Click the titlebar of the top window and untick that box.

Re: Window not on top when created.
Thanks.
Always on top is not ticked.
Always on visible workspace is blank.
But 'Only on this workspsace' is active. And there does not seem to be any way to change it.

Re: Window not on top when created.
Thanks, but that just shows the standard stuff. There is nothing in there about windows that are freshly initialiased appearing on top or underneath.
