Cannot Access NTFS Partition After Last Update
Hello,
I have been using mint for about 4 years, it does great for my daily activity. But problem comes after last update.
Since last updates i can't accessing my ntfs (windows) partition, every time i click on the windows partition in file manager (nemo), it shows Unable to mount D volume, Not Authorized to Perform Operation.
It was doing fine before last update.
What should i do to make it working properly as it used to be.?
Thank You

Re: Cannot Access NTFS Partition After Last Update
D volume - really. That is a surprise.
My NTFS is still working great, but I have not updated in 23 days.
I have 17 updates waiting to be applied.
Let me know if you find out which update is responsible for this.

Re: Cannot Access NTFS Partition After Last Update
I'm fully updated and have no difficulty accessing NTFS partitions. Have you booted into Windows recently? Have you tried mounting with Disks? (That's an app on Menu.) In any event, please supply your system information.

Re: Cannot Access NTFS Partition After Last Update
Dear,
I don't know which updates is responsible for this, all i remember is after doing last update, i can't accessing my ntfs partition.
Here i attached a screenshot, used to be when i click on the ntfs partition it will be auto mounted and can be accessing. Now when i click on the ntfs partition, it will show Unable to mount DATA, Not authorized to perform operation.
I need help to fix this please.
Thank You

Re: Cannot Access NTFS Partition After Last Update
It is more likely to be Windows causing you an issue than a Linux update.
Do you have hibernation/fast startup disabled in Windows.
If not, then do so (Google/Search Engine will tell you how) & then when you restart Mint your disk should be available.

I'd agree with this.

Re: Cannot Access NTFS Partition After Last Update
Firing up the old search engine and entering "ubuntu list updated packages" got me this, try running this in terminal and paste the text output here:
Code: Select all
cat /var/log/dpkg.log | grep "\ installed\ "

Re: Cannot Access NTFS Partition After Last Update
I have disabling the hibernation, fast startup is not available. Still no luck, i still couldn't read the ntfs partition
Re: Cannot Access NTFS Partition After Last Update
In Terminal, please run
BTW, I don't think it's the problem, but Fast Startup is a Windows setting, not BIOS/UEFI. Even if disabled, and presumably was or you'd have had trouble before this, occasionally gets re-enabled by Windows update (though hasn't happened to me in a long time). OTOH, wouldn't prevent mount, but rather would make the mount read-only.
sudo mount /dev/nvme0n1p5 /mnt
(if typing, that's a zero, not the letter "O"). What happens?BTW, I don't think it's the problem, but Fast Startup is a Windows setting, not BIOS/UEFI. I tried to plug my usb external dvd writer and it cannot be mount also, so i can't read the disk
Seems the problem is in my mint
Re: Cannot Access NTFS Partition After Last Update
We think it is always available from within windows, which I don't have.fast startup is not available.
By fast startup we mean this:
Boot into windows and disable faststartup:

Re: Cannot Access NTFS Partition After Last Update
Sorry, i forgot to paste the message. here it is
ovan@probook:~$ sudo mount /dev/nvme0n1p5 /mnt
Mount is denied because the NTFS volume is already exclusively opened.
The volume may be already mounted, or another software may use it which
could be identified for example by the help of the 'fuser' command.
ovan@probook:~$
Re: Cannot Access NTFS Partition After Last Update
Please do a full shutdown. Boot Windows and confirm it hasn't re-enabled Fast Startup (you check that in Control Panel > Power Options). Shut down Windows, boot Mint. Try to mount the NTFS partition. Report back.
Re: Cannot Access NTFS Partition After Last Update
I have done that and still i can't find Fast Startup, seems its already disabled
Re: Cannot Access NTFS Partition After Last Update
Curiously, you're missing an option to "Change settings that are currently unavailable," but I'll agree that shows Fast Startup hasn't been enabled.
Did you try mounting the partition again?
Did you try mounting the partition again?
Re: Cannot Access NTFS Partition After Last Update
I have click the "Change settings that are currently unavailable," still there is no Fast Startup option shows
Tried to mount it again and here is the results :
ovan@probook:~$ sudo mount /dev/nvme0n1p5 /mnt
Mount is denied because the NTFS volume is already exclusively opened.
The volume may be already mounted, or another software may use it which
could be identified for example by the help of the 'fuser' command.
And the ntfs partition still cannot be accessible
Re: Cannot Access NTFS Partition After Last Update
Alright, then, let's try the big gun: sudo mount -t ntfs-3g -o remove_hiberfile /dev/nvme0n1p5 /mnt
If that doesn't work, post the output of:
Please use code tags to report the outputs, using a separate code box for each command. If you get no response to either (or both) of the first two commands, i.e., are simply returned to the command prompt, report that (which means the command didn't find a match).
If that doesn't work, post the output of:
Code: Select all
sudo fuser -v /dev/nvme0n1p5
mount | grep nvme0n1p5
cat /etc/fstab
