I installed Linux Mint on dual boot alongside Windows 7 by following a tutorial I found on YouTube... After the installation I rebooted as it said and now I can't get past the "This is not a bootable disk..." screen.
My laptop is an ASUS K50IN, found nothing about UEFI on its BIOS, it's really empty with literally 4 boot options.
Can't even get back to Win 7, did I somehow break my PC?
Thanks

Re: PC doesn't boot after installation
- Boot from the installation media
- Post a picture of gparted showing the laptop hard drive.
. don't forget to click on the "view" menu (from Gparted) and enable "show device info".
. The contents of all columns in Gparted should be visible.
- Optionally, post the output of the command:
sudo parted -l

Re: PC doesn't boot after installation
Thanks for the help, I'll try those when I get home.
I presume you're telling me to install GPARTER on the bootable USB flash, right?
I'm still learning, sorry

Re: PC doesn't boot after installation
gparted is on your installation stick, no need to install. It is the standard linux partition editor. This is what my system drive looks like:
To upload a screenshot to the forum -
Click on the Add files button, you will get a dialogue asking for the file to upload, when it is uploaded you get the place inline button, click that and it will insert the code for the image at your cursor in the reply window. Check it has done what you want with the preview button.
In addition to a gparted screenshot, open a terminal post the output from
viewtopic.php?p=2119362&hilit=terminal#p2119362
If you have more than one drive in the system, the drive selector is top right. To upload a screenshot to the forum -
Alt
+ PrtScn
will take a screenshot of the active window. You will get a pop-up asking where to save it, the default is in Pictures. To upload it to the forum, below the reply window is an attachments tab:Click on the Add files button, you will get a dialogue asking for the file to upload, when it is uploaded you get the place inline button, click that and it will insert the code for the image at your cursor in the reply window. Check it has done what you want with the preview button.
In addition to a gparted screenshot, open a terminal post the output from
efibootmgr
, this tells us how your computer is booting (legacy or UEFI mode) and the output from inxi -Fxxxrz
, this gives us information about your system. This shows you how to post terminal output in the post so that it is more readable:viewtopic.php?p=2119362&hilit=terminal#p2119362

Re: PC doesn't boot after installation
Thanks again for helping, added the screenshot of GParted on main post and here's the output:
Also, forgot to say that I installed Mint on a 50GB unallocated partition, I found some BIOS updates for my motherboard (I've never installed any before), but I'm not sure if they would damage the pc even worse.

Re: PC doesn't boot after installation
I would remove EFI partition you don't need with Gparted (select sda4>Click on dustbin icon and click on Apply button).
Close Gparted when done, open a terminal and copy and paste following codes (one line each time and press enter) to reinstall grub (see here Linux Live or chroot methods for BIOS) You will need to remove efi line on fstab so run
Remove or comment (write # at the line beginning)
Reboot to select that Hitachi disk on computer's boot menu (F8). Be sure you get GRUB menu and there is a Windows option on GRUB menu.
If it is not, on a working Linux Mint session open a terminal, run and post back following codes results.
Close Gparted when done, open a terminal and copy and paste following codes (one line each time and press enter) to reinstall grub (see here Linux Live or chroot methods for BIOS)
Code: Select all
sudo mount /dev/sda6 /mnt
for i in /dev /dev/pts /proc /sys; do sudo mount -B $i /mnt$i; done
sudo chroot /mnt
grub-install --recheck /dev/sda
update-grub
exit
Code: Select all
sudoedit /mnt/etc/fstab
Press Ctrl+O to save (press Enter to confirm) and press Ctrl+X to close editor. Then unmount#EFI partition was on /dev/sda4 on installing
#UUID=XXXX-XXXX /boot/efi vfat umask=0077 0 1
Code: Select all
sudo umount -R /mnt
If it is not, on a working Linux Mint session open a terminal, run and post back following codes results.
Code: Select all
sudo update-grub
