Unable to get headphones to work.

Post by Estuans »

20+ Windows user here. 2nd day Linux Mint Cinnamon tryout. I bought Turtle Beach KAIRA X using the AUX cable plugged into the Green Aux port on the motherboard with no sound. Sound will work off my Acer Predator monitor speakers at least. I've tried searching google and the forums but haven't found anything conclusive that will help me out. I'm probably being dumb but considering this is completely different from Windows that I need to download drivers for the headset to work? Or Linux doesn't see the I/O ports on the motherboard for some reason? Here is the inxi -Fxxxrz if it provides any help to my issue.

Are they wired headphones, wireless, or Bluetooth? If wireless/BT is there a transmitter that you plug into a speaker/headphone socket? It all depends upon how your sound card is detecting outputs and if/whether a Bluetooth device is paired. I'm guessing that they are bluetooth and that they did work under windows. Is there a BT icon in the panel (taskbar) notification area? Click on that and see if your headset shows up. You might need to connect it.

This headset is wired only. Just got done with a 24 hour work day so I may try troubleshooting tomorrow or later tonight after my bike ride. So I tried plugging in my HyperX Headset from Aux to a USB adapter and that seems to work fine. Seems Linux is not playing nice with Aux only cables.

After considerable questioning of my ability to troubleshoot. Linux seems to be fine with it. The volume on the sound settings was at 50% which should provide sound. The headset itself had the volume on 0% until I moved it and then heard sound. Oof I feel dumb :)

Case closed :)

If you click on the volume tray icon > Sound Settings, under Output page there should be a list of devices showing you what is available for audio output. You should be able to manually select outputting to the green 3.5mm port from there.
