In folder List View, cannot copy or paste file name[SOLVED]

Post by martinme »

Hi all,

I'm trying to copy/paste file name under List View of the nemo file manager.
After using the F2 key, it goes to rename mode and I can type normally. However, whenever I press the Ctrl key on my keyboard, it abandons whatever I've typed, reverts back to the original file name and exits the edit mode.

Is this a known issue? Is there any way around it?

P.S. It has no issue in Icon View or Compact View.

Not sure if this image helps, but this is how the List View looks like:

SOLUTION:
Go to Mouse and Touchpad settings, disable the following settings:
Show position of pointer when the Control key is pressed

Hello and welcome to the forum.
Is this a known issue?
No, it is not. On my LM 20.3 it works perfectly. After doing Ctrl-C Nemo stays in edit mode, but going to a text file and clicking Ctrl-V places the filename in the document.

Highlight the file, don't press F2, but just do a Ctrl-C in the non-edit mode. Do you get the full filename and path?

I wonder if you have a hotkey that is set close enough and/or you were accidentally having a pudgy finger moment.

I just tried LM 21.1 cinnamon's Nemo's list view, created a new text file, hit F2, type a random name, then ctrl+c, opened a blank Gedit ( gui text editor) window, and successfully pasted that random name in it. (shrugs).

@mikeflan @motoryzen
Thank you for testing it! I figured out the issue.

After reading @motoryzen 's comment:

I immediately thought of this Mouse and Touchpad setting and turned it off.

Now it's working perfectly! Once again, thank you for your help!
