With the latest version of Thunderbird, when you reply to an e-mail an arrow is inserted on the left of the mail. If you get a reply from that reply it does not show up at all in the inbox, so there is no way to know that message is there. You have to click on the arrow and the reply message will become visible.
I prefer the old system where there were no arrows and every message received was displayed in order. Can anyone tell me how to restore that situation?

Use View -> Sort by -> Unthreaded
I remember fairly recently also (re-)doing that a few times; you may need to set that view setting per folder. Don't know/remember in detail.
