sp5100-tco failed with error -16 [SOLVED]

Post by Lars81 »

Hello

I'm newbie with an AMD Opteron3280 and Nvidia Quadro M2000

And I did had some problems before getting the Nvidia M2000 drivers installed. Thats now working! But I had to update kernel following these instructions making this work overall. (No more freezes, where system complete frozen halt. Thats solved :D )

But now I'm faced with the following problem:

During the boot of Linux MINT I get the following error.

Code: Select all

sp5100-tco sp5100-tco: Failed to reserve MMIO or alternate MMIO region

[ 9.523701] sp5100-tco: probe of sp5100-tco failed with error -16
From what I can suspect it's has to do with watchdog or bios related? But I'm bit clueless how to fix this. I have been looking around, but I'm not sure how I will be able to fix it.

But started showing up afhter the Kernel update.

I hope someone can point me in the right direction.

Does the system work as it should even with the error message? If it's so you may ignore it.
If I have helped you solve a problem, please add [SOLVED] to your first post title, it helps other users looking for help.

A "watchdog" for IPMI-compatible motherboards but almost no "consumer" AMD motherboard supports IPMI.

So the message is just a nuisance

You can get rid of the message by blocking responsible module from loading

Elsewhere it is suggested that watchdog can be turned off in BIOS / UEFI settings

Yes the system works perfect! I can be productive without limitations.

Just like other user my motherboard doesn’t have UEFI mode/setting.

It's just enjoying boot error that keeps waiting for like little while. But maybe I should be happy system runs well.

Status of watchdog:

ltc@ltc-503:~$ sudo systemctl status watchdog

Unit watchdog.service could not be found.
Thanks for the replay's and thinking with me.

I did blacklist watchdog and message is gone.

Code: Select all

ltc@ltc-503:~$ dmesg > boot_messages
ltc@ltc-503:~$ dmesg | grep error
It's show zero errors now. I think I can see this issue as resolved.
