Linux Mint KDE Edition?

Post by Torinnderg »

Will possibly be a version of Linux Mint that comes with KDE as it's default desktop manager in the future? Sorry if this is a stupid question.

Most likely not. There used to be one and it was removed. Since the Mint team uses Gtk for all development, it didn't really make sense to continue the KDE version.
When I give opinions, they are my own. Not necessarily those of any other Linux Mint developer or the Linux Mint project as a whole.

KDE support in Mint ended with version 18.3.
You can install KDE/plasma on a mint OS. But it's recommended that you start with the XFCE version. However if you do that there will be Little support available.

I wish Mint still supported KDE too, I used to use that but switched to MX KDE. I'm a strong believer that if you want to use a certain desktop, you should use a distro that actually supports it. Support is probably the most important thing in a Linux distro.

You can also try Feren OS. It was originally based on Mint, but is now based on Ubuntu with the Plasma desktop and several Mint tools still included.

It has just been reviewed on Distrohoppers Digest who released episode 43 today.

I'd have to agree on this one. You'd likely get a much better and more tailored experience this way. I have KDE Neon installed just for messing around with and testing KDE.

I'm with you I also used KDE until it was discontinued on Mint. Now use Kubuntu for KDE.

no running 22.04 - I tried lunar and it works well for me but with the short release cycle choose to stay with LTS.
Sorry for the late reply, been out of town and not on line.
