What templates are sufficient to add a language to Linux Mint? I am translating Linux Mint into Rusyn language, and I think that I will complete the translation completely, but is there a number of sufficient translations to add a language?

If there are programs you find are not fully translated to Russian yet, you would join the Russian translation team for Linux Mint or the Russian Ubuntu Translators and help out with translating in the normal way.

Doesn't look like there currently is a translation team on Ubuntu (or upstream Debian) for Rusyn. It would be a massive undertaking. In Debian it shows for each language there are 1.4 million strings (sentences) to translate to fully translate the OS

I don't know for Debian but for Ubuntu here is the process for starting a new translation team: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Translations/Kn ... artingTeam. Only the software developed by Linux Mint is translated at Linux Mint. The vast majority of software translations are done upstream where the programs are developed, for example for Firefox here https://pontoon.mozilla.org/ and for LibreOffice here https://translations.documentfoundation.org/ (I didn't find Rusyn translation on either yet), and else in Ubuntu or Debian.

If you want to only translate the software developed by Linux Mint you need to email the developers to request a new Rusyn translation team for Linux Mint be created. It makes sense to do the same for major upstream software (Firefox, Thunderbird, LibreOffice etc., they each have their own process for this) as all that software needs to be translated. And as per above request a Rusyn Ubuntu Translators team to translate the software in Ubuntu that has no upstream translation project.

I don't want to discourage you but perhaps you should see if you can find other Rusyn & English speaking FOSS users that would be willing to help with translating, form a team of people to do the translations.

Oh, the problem is that I'm literally the only Rusyn translator on the internet, I've already translated 19.5% of Linux Mint in three days, but it looks like it'll take me a lifetime to translate 1.4 million lines if I only translate Linux Mint, then the system will be partly in Rusyn and partly in English?

The page I linked you to earlier https://translations.launchpad.net/linu ... t/+lang/ru shows the software that is translated at Linux Mint. Basically Cinnamon, Nemo, the Mint tools (Software Manager, Update Manager etc.) and the Xapps (Xed, Pix etc.). The vast majority of programs and software are not translated at Linux Mint but in the package base or upstream development project. On a default install of Linux Mint most programs would not be translated. Major ones like Firefox, Thunderbird and LibreOffice. And not MATE and Xfce.

Anyway, wherever you do want to translate it starts with requesting a Rusyn translation team. Once you have that team, and you're on it, you can start doing translations. For Linux Mint, after requesting the Linux Mint developers to set up such a team, you can follow the translation guide for adding your translations. You can translate on Launchpad or, as detailed in the guide, use POEdit to do the translations for a program in one go and then upload that to Launchpad. Either way, first you need to have a Rusyn translation team for Linux Mint on Launchpad to get the permissions needed to do/upload translations.

Email the developers at root@linuxmint.com. Simply request they add a Rusyn translation team for Linux Mint on Launchpad and that you are added to it, as you want to translate Linux Mint software to the Rusyn language. Include your Launchpad user account info with the request as without a Launchpad user account you can't join the team or do translations. If you don't have a Launchpad user account yet, register that first on https://login.launchpad.net/+login
