Why so many updates?

Seems a little ridiculous to have updates almost every day. Can't they be grouped and do updates once or twice a week?

They can, of course.... But personally I prefer to receive updates whenever they become available.

If you don't mind my asking, out of curiosity: Why do you care about when updated packages are done and have hit the mirror(s) you chose?

It is entirely your decision to run your updates just once a week.

I thought you had to run the updates when they were listed. Thanks for letting me know I can update when I choose. Still way better than MS updating when they want and bogging down my PC when I am trying to do something else.

That's one of the beauties about Linux. Updates are frequent as soon as the maintainers can react to any potential security holes, and as soon as they can add new features to Apps as they are made available. The best part is that unless it involves kernel changes, there is, as you say, very rarely and bogging down or reason to reboot.
And as has been mentioned, you can choose how often and when your updates are done

Agree! Thank you to each one who answered my post. I think I like the auto and will look into that. Totally missed that on the install setup. It seems Linux Mint does not slow when updating like MS does at times.
