How to keep LMDE5 desktop theme

Post by touil1976 »

Hello,
I plan to upgrade my LMDE5 to LMDE6. I tried it on a bootable usb stick and I really don't like the new colored tool tips. I would like to be able to keep the exact LMDE5 standard theme. How could I achieve this ?
Thanks.

I have never tried that, used to have LMDE5 installed, but no more.

Aptik works usually in the regular LM versions, it should work for you.

------------------------------------

USE APTIK TO REINSTALL

APTIK is the Cat's Meow when it comes to restoring an install on another PC of the same distro,
or when Upgrading from your Current Distro to a newer version

You can purchase APTIK for a nominal lifetime fee of $25.00

https://teejeetech.com/2022/06/26/aptik-22-06/

then run Aptik to create a backup of the apps that you use in your Current install.
( must be stored on an External Drive ) e.g., a USB ext4 drive.

Then do a Fresh Install of the new distro ( must be same Desktop ) e.g. Cinnamon

when the Fresh Install is finished, do NOT run updates, do NOT do anything at all,

EXCEPT: Install APTIK in the fresh install.

Now, run Aptik and point it to the storage location.

It will reinstall your Environment just like it was before, until it reaches the crapola that you did on your own.

at that point, it will pause, and provide a LIST of everything that did not install.

Highligh and copy that list and SAVE IT, so you can refer to it later.
then reinstall from your .deb files, or PPAs, whatever.

works every time.

here I want to mention, that having /home in a Separate Partition is a BLESSING,
because your Downloads and all of your .deb files are in place already.

============================

Before you do a Fresh Install on the PC,

you will need to backup your /home files separately,
I am now using Homi, a terrific package that is viewable from NEMO..

"Homi" can restore your /home files.

a Neat Feature of Homi, is that it will copy all of your .Config files so your new install if complete, saving you hours or days of work setting that up again.
