mint 21.2 - custom colors?

Post by vanderzee »

tried searching but could not find anything specific, and also only found 3+ years old posts

the minty theme, actually i love the dark theme with black/dark/grey and orange

and all i wanted is to tune the orange which is too bright for a daker hue ( like #c35b00 or maybe #8b4600)

how can this be done?

thanks

I'm not sure you could do that, but try searching for Themes that could atleast come closer to the Orange hue you are looking for. Should be fairly simple to get too.

Are you talking about window themes or icon themes? Changing icons could be very difficult.

Which desktop are you using? Here is what you can do on Cinnamon.

If it's the window theme, then you can edit a CSS file. Depending on which theme you want, they are found in

Code: Select all

/usr/share/themes/Mint-Y-Dark-???/cinnamon/cinnamon.css
Here you would replace the ??? with which color of the theme you are using.

Editing this directly can be dangerous, as you can break it. Copy it to

Code: Select all

~/.themes/Mint-Y-Dark-???/cinnamon/cinnamon.css
then edit that.

To find the color code of the "too bright orange" you can use Color Picker:

I think it comes installed with Mint? Anyway, you can click the tiny little "eyedrop" button on the bottom right, then click anywhere on the screen to get its color.

Then you can look for that color code in the cinnamon.css file. Search and replace. To see it, press Ctrl+Alt+Esc to restart Cinnamon.

If things go bad, delete the CSS file you copied, so it will revert back to the normal one in /usr/share/themes/...
