Games running extremely slow after an update

Post by Colbud »

Hey there, I am new to Linux, and don't really know what I am doing. I recently built a computer and thought that I would give it a go, see if I could learn something.

Anyways I got it all up and running a few months back now, and everything was working well until recently. I came back from a trip and had a stockpile of updates waiting for me. After the updates it seems to me that the trouble started. Games that I had previously been playing at the highest settings and getting somewhere in the 144 fps now can only get 1 fps at the lowest settings and even very graphically basic games can only seem to get around the 10 to 20 fps range.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Also I forgot that I have been getting a little message at launch that seems a bit strange and new

amd_gpio AMDI0030:00: invalid config param 0013

I think that little message is in regards to a kernel issue, but since you're running an Nvidia card, I don't think it affects you? Did your stockpile of updates include a kernel update? If so, I would try making a Timeshift snapshot then either downgrading the kernel or making the jump to a newer kernel than 5.15

I am not sure if the updates included a kernel update, but I did update the kernel to 6.2 to no effect.

Check Update Manager > View > History of Updates to see what updates you installed. It's possible there were updates to some of your gaming software. Or there was an update to the Nvidia driver and the gaming software is not properly recognizing that change.
