PANTUM 6506 Printer

Post by giorgio 33 »

Hello everybody,

I installed the pantum_1.1.106-1_amd64.deb package containing the CUPS and SANE drivers.

The PANTUM 6506 printer is fully functional in terms of printing functions.

However, I cannot get the scanner to work.

Xsane is regularly installed, but despite this the scanner is not detected. I have not found any posts about it that could help me.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hey, giorgio 33
Run sudo scanimage -L in a terminal to see whether the scanner is detected or not.

it is isn't listed as a usb device. I bet your all-in-one is connected to your local network.
In this case both printer and scanner should probably work out of the box without needing any vendor-specific drivers.
sane-airscan is the package meant for scanners connected over network and it should have been already installed.

Hi Mizog,
Thanks for the reply.
So, I tried to give the command Sudo Scanimage -L and nothing was found. The result is attached.

The scanner is not recognized. In the print settings it seems all right, I also attach this image.

What can I do now?

So, Pantum 6506 is connected to a usb port. Does not come with a network interface? Network all-in-one usually work without any manufacturer's drivers as I said.

Anyway...

Hi Mizog,

so, I used the command lsusb ; sane-find-scanner with the printer connected and the result is this:

So I understand that something is detected, but the scanner still doesn't work.....

Do you have any other suggestions ? thank you very much !

Scanner is detected but no "sane-backend" is loaded in xsane...
...
(Low possibility to change anything) Have you tried simple-scan ("Document Scanner")?
I think both should use the same sane-backend but simple-scan behaves better in most of my Linux setups.
...
On https://mypantum.com/drivers/ the driver package for m6500 series is V1.1.82.1 from September 2021.
It is designated as "Ubuntu" driver but maybe it could work with LMDE.
You instead, as you stated in your OP, installed 1.1.106-1 which is for m6600 series. Worth looking into it.
...
On several wikis I'm coming across ipp-usb as a way to use the globally working network interface with usb printers/scanners.
I advise caution because I haven't personally used it. My old usb-connected Cannon Lide 220 does not need it. Scanner that came with all-in-one Epson WF-3820 worked oob with sane-airscan. An old "pro" Epson Perfection in my inventory is working only with proprietary VueScan. Simulating installation of ipp-usb in my system requires uninstallation of vuescan and of a few other libs.

Hi Mizog,

So, I tried installing 'Simple Scan' and even with that, the scanner is not recognised.

I tried installing the Pantum Ubuntu Driver V1.1.82-1 but nothing, the scanner is still not detected.

I tried the command "ipp-usb" but nothing happens....

What else could be done?

I found this:
https://wiki.debian.org/CUPSDriverlessP ... upsbrowsed

but I can't figure out, what should I do....

Help !

Cups (and dependencies) is already installed in Mint. Most likely you don't have to do anything.
And cups is about printing which you have mentioned is currently working for you.

Hi Mizog,

I see, so CUPS has nothing to do with the operation of the scanner. In fact, the printing functions are fine.

At this point, however, I don't know what else to try to get the scanner to work, which seems to be at least partially recognised in some way (the command lsusb ; sane-find-scanner gives the result: found possible USB scanner vendor=0x232b [Pantum], product=0x0e20 [M6500 series] at libusb:003:006" as above).

Any further ideas to solve the problem ?

Since you already installed ipp-usb, make sure sane-airscan is installed too.

Instead of fighting with USB, unplug the USB cable, and plug a ethernet cable from router to the printer, and reboot.

Thank you for your reply grndplane, but I don't have the Ethernet port on the printer.

Any other suggestions from those who had the same problem ? I can't find anything that can help me, at least with my level of technical knowledge.... Thanks in advance for any help.
