Mate Panel Missing 20.3 and Vanessa [SOLVED]

For some reason, maybe after an update, the panel disappeared in Una.

I tried

Code: Select all

mate-panel --reset

and

Code: Select all

gsettings reset-recursively org.mate.panel

without success.

The right click context menus disappeared also.

ALT-F2 got me into Run Application and I can access Terminal from there and from CTRL-ALT-T.

It seemed a good idea to use this as an opportunity to upgrade to 21.0 Vanessa. The install worked seamlessly.

But, the original problem in Una has carrried over to Vanessa!

I cannot access Control Panel to adjust the Display - it may be too large for the screen. I do not know how to change this from the Terminal.

I'd be grateful for advice.

EDIT

I used the super key to access Display settings - changed to 1920 x1080 from 3840 x 2160.
Still no panel - no context menu.

Clean install?

Perhaps the panel is actually there but off the bottom of the screen.
What do the settings in Settings/Display show regarding your monitor?

Thanks. That was my thinking also but no matter what screen res I used, the panel did not appear.

The nvidia 535 recommended graphics driver was the culprit.
I had updated to this in 20.3. Bad mistake.

The setting was carried over into the new Vanessa install.
All the problems disappeared as if by magic when I switched to the x-server nouveau driver.

Yes btdt and have read numerous forum topics regarding reverting back to nouveau drivers.
