{RESOLVED} Enabling Number-Lock on Boot

Post by SilverFox21 »

Is there a way to enable the Number Lock upon boot? Also, I have a couple of removable drives that I would like to mount them on boot. How would I do that?

Run in terminal sudo apt install numlockx and after that go to Login applet in the settings and switch that option ON.

Open System Settings, at the bottom click on Login Window, enter your password, then pick settings (upper right on top). first entry Enable Numlock, move slider to the right.

Maybe it depends on the hardware but on all my systems numlock is enabled or disabled at boot in the same state as when I shutdown, which I usually do only when the system tells me to; otherwise I just suspend.
I also use only Xfce which has a setting to enable numlock at boot in the keyboard settings but I've no idea about cinnamon..

You can try it from Terminal :

- check numlock-state :

Code: Select all

gsettings get org.cinnamon.desktop.peripherals.keyboard numlock-state
returns either true or false.

- if false

Code: Select all

gsettings set org.cinnamon.desktop.peripherals.keyboard numlock-state "true"
should solve the issue after restarting Cinnamon (Alt+F2 then r in the dialog box)

-if already true,
there is probably a keyboard problem (bad choice at install may be).

Open another topic. When people search on the forum, they look at the headers. So, those having the same problem you seem to have with removable disks would never dream an answer could come from an "Enabling Number-Lock on Boot".

Shiva,
Thank you for that bit of info. I will do that.
