RTX 3060 fans always on

Post by Snipes89 »

I have a RTX 3060 and installed NVIDIA drivers with this command
sudo apt install nvidia-driver firmware-misc-nonfree

When the temp on the GPU reaches 65 the fans run at full speed and don't turn off and when I try to manualy set the fan speed it doesn't change it just displays failed to set fan speed.
I thought it could be the GPU I swapped it out for another one same issue. I tried Debian 12 and same issue. I have tried to purge the NVIDIA driver install and reinstall the OS and nothing has changed

I'm not sure why you cherry-picked and posted only parts of your system information, but from the bits and pieces you did post, it appears you have a dual-GPU system. You cut off the part which shows which one is rendering. That makes it harder to help you.

Please open the System Reports app and click the System Information tab on the left. Your computer's information should come up in the right pane. Then click the Copy button in the lower right and paste the results into a reply window here so we can see how Linux Mint views your hardware. If you do it that way, code tags are added and the formatting has indents and spaces without you need to be creative about how you post the information. The standard formatting also makes it easy for those helping you to key in on specific information.
