Brother Printer (Resolved)

Post by GELvdH »

I have 4 systems, 2 desktops and 2 laptops. I print primarily from my DT1, my DT2 is setup as a WiFi system for networking and printing, my printer is on the second floor and the DT2 is on the first. I seldom print from it. I used to be able to print from DT2 without any problem but as of late I can not print, I don't know when it stopped printing since I use it so seldom. One of my laptops is 3 ft away from my WiFi router next to DT2 and it works fine. Reloaded the Brother Drivers from their web site, no joy. When I try to install a new printer it does no recognize any network printer, I know my WiFi network is operational because I am on the Internet to you from DT2. Any ideas?

Print off a network report from the control panel of the printer. Look and note the IP address of the printer. What IP does the printer have?

Next download the driver install tool for your printer. Run the install tool and when it asks about how to connect to the printer choose "Supply an IP address". Fill in the IP address and finish install. Now test it and report back.

Also, List your internal IP of the computer you cannot print from and compare it to that of the printer. If your wireless is on a different subnet it may have issues detecting the printer.

In my case, having NordVPN enabled prevents my printer from being detected. When I diconnect NordVPN and disable the killswitch, immediately Linux Mint detects my printer.

I use Nord and my networked printer works OK while the VPN is connected or disconnected. You may want to try enabling lan discovery, for example

Code: Select all

nordvpn set lan-discovery enabled
