Nvidia drivers? Steam games have all stopped working.

Post by PapaRams »

Hello, please help.
Games previously worked on steam but dropped off one by one and now pretty much nothing works.
I suspect nvidia drivers, but cant seem to resolve the issue, tried various terminal methods and driver manager. Linux noob but slowly getting there.

1. If an open source game works, for example 0 A.D. , SuperTuxKart , it's probably not the GPU drivers

2 Try test other games for example CycloHex , " Gear Up " , are free and small.
- If they work, the Proton also works.

3. I once had the game stop working after updating Steam/Proton, deleting the settings helped for me.
- What specific games don't work for you?
- Try to generate a Proton log, , maybe you will see an error in the output.

Hello.

Firstly thank you for taking the time to reply! Your my hero.

Secondly, tried "Gear Up" it loads but lags.

This is also whats happening with majority of games.

Games trying to play are: One armed robber, red dead vengeance, totally accurate battle simulator, halo infinite lots of diffwerent ones that did all work previously no problem, but something has gone awry somewhere as they all either crash on load or lag to death so bad you cant even use options on menu screen of game.

I can play minecraft outside of steam perfectly, full render distance, so graphics card works and drivers?
Also blue stacks emulator and all games work no problem.

Tried following online instructions on creating proton log for each individual game using LAUNCH OPTIONS in steam Properties,

WINEDEBUG="+timestamp,+pid,+tid,+seh,+debugstr,+module" %command%

(I dont have beta enabled) but cant see the log in the home section when i search "steam-"

???

Hello, I now need to figure out how to close this thread as randomly I typed "steam log" in the terminal in desperation and it proceeded to tell me there were lots of steam things that needed to be updated, clicked Y to proceed and then it installed what looks like a fresh copy of steam with no games installed.

In short, all the games now work, but I had to delete all the game files from my hard drive as they still appeared to be there in duplicate from the previous steam install.

Oooft, whatever works, at least everything now works.

Thank you for your help! and your time! You have been a big help.

Taing,
