Budgie app launcher on Mate? [SOLVED]

Post by fatso »

Likely a stupid question, but I'm wondering if the Budgie application launcher would work on Mint 21.3 Mate. If so, does it replace the existing menu?...don't want a replacement, just an addition.

No. Budgie menu is an applet for the Budgie panel; https://github.com/BuddiesOfBudgie/budg ... udgie-menu. MATE doesn't support Budgie applets.

I suspected as much. Thanks for the info though. I'm using a panel on the left side, just not overly fond of that cuz it either takes away screen real estate or it activates too easily and sometimes interferes with other desktop items. Been searching everywhere for a macos-style launcher, but it seems most things are type-driven, so they won't help my productivity at all. Even tried writing my own launcher, but I ran into issues where sometimes activating an item locks up my launcher app until the respective running app (ie: Caprine Messenger, etc.) is closed. Can't figure out how to make launched apps "let go".

Oh well, panel it is I guess.
