LibreOffice Writer Minimalist Dark Mode [TUTORIAL]

Post by Scy »

I just struggled to get this to work in Linux Mint 21.3 and the default installed version 7.3.x. Here is the process I did to make it appear like this:
darkmode1.png
Requirements: Cinnamon dark mode theme (for whole Desktop Environment) & Installing one package (as of this posting)

1: Go to 'View' -> 'User Interface...' and select 'Contextual Single'. Apply to Writer.
2: Go to 'Tools' -> 'Options...' -> 'LibreOffice' -> 'Application Colors' and select 'LibreOffice Dark' under 'Scheme'. Apply.
3: If it ever asks you to restart LibreOffice Writer, do so.
Now you will need to install a package.
4: Open Linux Mint's Software Center. Search for 'Libreoffice-style-sifr'. Install that package.
5: Restart LibreOffice Writer.
Now, if it was not set to a dark theme for the icons automatically, then you can go in and select a dark theme icon set now.
6: Go to 'Tools' -> 'Options...' -> 'LibreOffice' -> 'View' and select 'Breeze (dark)' under 'Icon style'. Apply.
7: Restart LibreOffice Writer
8: Go to 'View' -> Select 'Web' (instead of 'Normal')

You should now have a minimalist text editor

Interesting. Is it minimalist in the sense that it requires much less resources, or is it just minimalist in its appearance?

Appearance. I haven't found a more modern/compact view, that also has word processing (and isn't in the spy-cloud called internet services).

Markdown editors - like MarkText - are really great/close, but typing things like $ symbols get annoying/complicated, and the font options are not there.
