Mint 21 is reported to have driverless printing. After upgrade to 21.3 (via 21) the printer (HP Deskjet 2700) has status as disconnected. From earlier Mint versions I still have HPLIP installed, and when printing did not succeded I refreshed the installation of HPLIP-GUI. The printer also appears as disconnected in HPLIP.
The printer is detected and ticked off as enabled.
One peculiar thing is that when I installed a Document Scanner from the software manager, it worked immediately.
So there must be something I should have done which I don't know about to make the driverless printing take effect.
Driverless printing is new to me, over the years I have used HPLIP and it has worked very well.

Re: After upgrade from Mint 20.3 to 21.3
I have exactly the same problem after upgrading to 21.3. Unfortunately, I can't do anything with your statement. It would be best if there is a solution.
Also in this thread I find the same issue.
Where can I find usable info about "driverless printing" on 21.3?
Update: I got a solution here:
Remove IPP with
Code: Select all
sudo apt remove ipp-usb sane-airscan
How you get better results when searching for yourself.

Thanks a lot!. The printer worked right away. But does this mean that I do not use driverless printing, but use HPLIP? HPLIP is now showing the full set of icons on the device manager screen.Dan-cer wrote: ⤴Thu Feb 29, 2024 6:42 am

Yes. After removing IPP I could setup with HPLIP

Right. I still wonder why the driverless printing does not work, because I can print from my cellphone, so the printer as such should handle driverless
printing.
printing.
