[SOLVED] Nvdia graphics performance

Post by msamiullah »

I recently installed Mint on my Lenovo 7 laptop which has a nvidia 3080ti graphics card. The drivers are installed but I cannot change resoultion and the refresh rate is showing incorrectly as well. I tested PS2 emulation and performance is terrible on both openGL and Vulkan. Can someone guide me what I need to do here. Thanks

Welcome to the forum, msamiullah.

Please open the System Reports app and click the System Information tab on the left. Your computer's information should come up in the right pane. Then click the Copy button in the lower right and paste the results into a reply window here so we can see how Linux Mint views your hardware.

Most laptops are dual-GPU and it sounds like you may not have a new enough kernel to have the drivers for your onboard GPU (Intel or AMD) loaded.

You didn't need to do that, but it is okay that you did.

A 12th-gen Intel CPU really should be using a 6 series kernel. Please upgrade to the 6.5 kernel available in Update Manager.

Instructions for upgrading to the 6.5 kernel:
  • Open Update Manager.
  • Select View > Linux Kernels and click Continue.
  • Make sure 6.5 is selected on the left panel and then click the top-most option on the right panel. An "Install" button will appear.
  • Install the kernel and then reboot for it to become active.
This is not showing an Nvidia driver loaded. That can happen for several reasons.

Is secure boot enabled? You can check by running the following in a terminal

Code: Select all

mokutil --sb-state
If secure boot is enabled and you have not created keys (MOK) then even if you have the Nvidia driver installed it will not load at boot time.

Did you install a proprietary Nvidia driver from Driver Manager? Please provide the output of

Code: Select all

dpkg -l | grep -i nvidia
and enclose the results in code tags as described in this tutorial How to use code display tags on forums.linuxmint.com.

Thank you so much, its resolved. There were two issues as you highlighted. I need to turn-off forced GPU in BIOS and disable secure boot in BIOS as well.
I am having another issue were I have no sound from internal speakers of my laptop. Bluetooth audio works just fine. Any ideas please?

You're probably going to need a 6.8 kernel and the cirrus firmware: https://github.com/torvalds/linux/commi ... ba51e0ebd3

But yes, make a new thread.
