I have no idea why you think that would address this issue.

What is the output of

Code: Select all

journalctl -b | grep -i "drm\|amdgpu\|01:00.0"

This situation is making me physically sick to my stomach.

I have to leave keys for a bit and get something to eat

This indicates you did not switch back to a 5.15 kernel. I suggest you do that.

I see a lot of displayport link status failed. That's the monitor that didn't have the correct resolution, wasn't it? If reverting back to the 5.15 kernel does not help, remove the cable for that one display.

The idea is to get stability and then we will work from there.

You have to boot with a 5.15 kernel and then remove all the newer kernels you have installed and also remove the hwe packages so a newer kernel does not come up again in Update Manager.

You will have to use the grub menu's Advanced Options at least once so you can have your system booted with a 5.15 kernel.

Well this is depressing.

I unplugged the miniDP-HDMI cable from the back of monitor 3 (the ASUS 27") and all the blackscreen problems are gone.

I dont get this. My video card is no longer eligable for refund which means it's been at least 90 days that my triple monitor setup worked perfectly.

Now it's suddenly causing me screen blackout?

What kernel version were you using when you tested that?

So these were all the repeating errors. I searched on the first one and found this old bug report Bug 54381 - [drm:radeon_atom_pick_pll] *ERROR* unable to allocate a PPLL which is for a slightly older version GPU than what you have. It mentions the capabilities of the GPU and clock rates.

You weren't doing anything which might have done anything with clock rates for the monitors or any tweaking of the GPU were you?

Was this a new mini-DP-HDMI cable?

The cable is brand new

When this happened I had just installed i2c monitor info app. I performed the command to identify used ports by name:

Code: Select all

sudo i2cdetect -y 1
sudo i2cdetect -y 3
sudo i2cdetect -y 5
as soon as I entered this I swear I heard a popping sound then all my monitors went black, then they came back stuck at maximum resolution and minimum resolution until I shut down and restarted.

I could not find any info that i2cdetect does anything more than read data, but I will check more tomorrow. (Getting late for me now.)

Please explain what you did with ddcutil. When I searched on it, it indicates "Query and change monitor settings".

So I found this i2cdetect(8) - Linux man page which has on the page:
Warning
This program can confuse your I2C bus, cause data loss and worse!
That warning information is also listed at Ubuntu Manpages: i2cdetect. This page also says:
As there is no standard I2C detection command, i2cdetect uses arbitrary SMBus commands
(namely SMBus quick write and SMBus receive byte) to probe for devices. By default, the
command used is the one believed to be the safest for each address.
What did you use/do to decide what buses you were going to scan?

Will the ASUS monitor work if only one or none of the LG Ultragears are attached? I would like to see if you can get

Code: Select all

xrandr --verbose
from the ASUS. I presume you can use an HDMI-HDMI cable to connect the ASUS.

I don't know what happened, but maybe this is a port/EDID issue that can somehow be worked around.

Hello SMG, I got all the data I needed to make a full Display Monitors conky widget from xrandr

I'm happy to try that troubleshoot for you. My dog is begging for me to leave keys and give him some attn so I'm going to take him for a walk then I will be able to settle in and concentrate on troubleshooting.

I have the miniDP - HDMI cable still connected at the card end. I can just replug this in and pull an hdmi out of one of the LGs or I can pull the cable from the KVM switch and plug direct into the Asus HDMI - HDMI

So have you tried booting a LiveUSB? Try that first. If you have the same problem(s) there, a complete reinstall is unlikely to accomplish anything other than wasting time.

Also, please edit the title of the first post and remove the Solved tag if you're still having problems.

Hello Seasons, how are you?

I can certainly try a live boot but it took installing a amdgpu driver and dependencies IIRC to get the 3rd monitor operational. Im unsure if I will be able to view the monitor on a default OS lacking these driver files.
