Solved! My new Canon Pixma G3270 printer won't print from desktop?

Post by lehv4 »

Solved! I have installed the correct software and cups but I don't remember how to enter the device URI under the printer settings? Also, I forgot what I enter for Cups Server? The printer works great when I send a job from my phone. I can scan and copy but I just can't print from my computer. I am using the Linux version 21.1. Any help would be great! Thanks!

you failed to tell us what OS and DE you are using, no way we can help you w/o that.

please use Terminal to get this:

Code: Select all

inxi -Fxxxrz
paste into Terminal with Shift-Control-V

highlight all of it, and click on the box above, that looks like this </>
do not move the cursor, just paste the results for us

Okay,
now I understand what you have, same as me.

I also have a Canon printer, two of them as a matter of fact.

Linux is not able to "see them" because the Canon printers do NOT give you a manual way of using the control panel to select the WiFi channel and lock it that WiFi.

They are configured by MS Windows using a URL specified in the manual that comes with it.

my laptop, happens to be Dual Boot, and I have Win10/11 on it from the get go.

I booted into Windows and went to the specified URL and followed the Instructions.
That causes the Printer to locate the WiFi channel you are using, and it locks onto that channel permanently.

Once it does that, I rebooted into LM21.3 Cinnamon, and Mint found the Canon Printer immediately, and every thing works perfectly.

no messing around with Drivers, or Cups.

do you have access to a MS Windows PC, or can you borrow one for about 10 minutes?
if so, your troubles will be over in 15 minutes.

Should the method described by AZgl1800 not work for you might want to try this
https://canoncanada.custhelp.com/app/an ... ixma-g3270
which appears to achieve the same thing - connects the printer wirelessly to your network.
I suggest you do do this with your linux devices switched off.
Once achieved, LM should proceed to automatically detect your printer.

the method just mentioned would not work for me,
as I have 6 WiFi signals here,
all of them use the same exact Password,
so the printer has no way to know which WiFi channel to lock onto.

the printer will scan all channels though, and will lock onto a Windows PC that is trying to find it.

I manually set each Router to a different Channel so they do not interfere with each other.

2 pocket Hotspots, and one Gateway, all on T-Mobile wireless carriers.

I would love to have a Fiber cable here, but the nearest one is 20 miles away.

Glad to hear all is solved. All you need to do now is edit the post title on your first post and add [SOLVED] at the end.
