First things first, I am a completely new user to linux and have zero idea as to what I am doing. I have had extensive help from a friend whenever I have had issues, including this one and even he can't figure out what the problem is and has led me here. I have tried two different kernel's so far, those two being 6.5 and 6.2. Here is a list of the things I have tried to fix this issue before coming here.

-Updating the bios to the newest version
-updating the kernel to 6.2 and 6.5(I am currently on 6.2 because realtek only supports up to 6.4 and I didn't see that in the options so I selected 6.2)
-Updating my network drivers using the linux drivers provided by realtek (https://www.realtek.com/en/component/zo ... s-software)
-uninstalling helldivers 2.
-disabling power saving mode(I am unsure if I actually disabled power saving mode.)

A couple of days ago I upgraded my CPU from an AMD 3600X to a 5600X, the very same day helldivers 2 had a patch and whenever I have that game or any multiplayer game when I am connected to the games servers. My network connection hard crashes to the point where the only way to fix it, is to restart my PC. I am connected with an Ethernet cable not through WiFi. This issue only happens whenever I try to use the multiplayer option for multiplayer games, I have played risk of rain 2 singleplayer with no issues however trying to use the multiplayer option of the game the same issue occurs. Whenever I use the internet for literally anything else there is zero issue, this only happens when I try and play multiplayer for any game that has that as an option. I uninstalled helldivers 2 and removed all folders related to it from my system because I thought it was the anti-cheat that they use, but I am still having this problem. I am at my wits end and have no idea what the problem could be other than a hardware issue, which I really hope is not the case.

Welcome to Mint forums, batshadow

Your inxi report shows that you are actually using 6.5 kernel and that the kernel driver - not the driver you tried to install from Realtek site - is loaded for Realtek LAN. That looks OK. Keep the more recent kernel and never try again to install the Realtek driver from their site.

You have presumably installed Steam from Software Manager, either from Ubuntu repos which host a rather obsolete installer or flathub, i.e. the flatpak version for which you may need to grant extra permissions. I recommend reinstalling Steam using the official .deb installer from Valve's site.

Last, make sure you don't try to play mutliplayer games while using your VPN connection (you have nord vpn repo added to your sources), do you :?: :o

I appreciate the help, I did install steam from the software manager originally. I just uninstalled it then reinstalled it from the link you sent me, whenever I play multiplayer games I always turn off my VPN before opening the game. I just tried playing risk of rain 2's multiplayer again after reinstalling steam from the official installer you sent me and I still have the same issue. Also yes I have nord VPN added to my sources.

Some players posted workarounds on ProtonDB for what they call "problem with hosting a multiplayer game" (which might be different from your problem) with Risk of Rain 2.
In any event ProtonDB is where you have to look first for tips and tricks with Steam Proton.

There used to be a problem with risk of rain 2 when it came to hosting a miltuplayer game, but the most recent version of protonDB fixed that. My problem is whenever I choose the multiplayer option of a game, within 10 minutes my network connection hard crashes to where the only way to fix it is to restart my PC.
