How to switch GPU

Post by Mr Scratch »

Hello, yesterday I installed Linux Mint for the first time on my PC, however I have a question regarding my GPU.

I use an old monitor that has only VGA output and for this reason I cannot connect the monitor directly to my graphic card (RX 570) so I connect it to the motherboard. In windows 11 there was an option that allowed me to use the RX 570 as the main GPU even though the cable was connected to the motherboard.

So my question is, is there any way to do the same in Linux Mint?

Please explain what you think this means. Usually, the BIOS/UEFI settings are what determines which ports are connected to specific GPUs.

The data you posted indicates
1) Your system is not updated. Please run the updates available in Update Manager.
2) Your system is shows the RX 570 as the primary GPU. That is why it is listed as Device 1.

Code: Select all

Graphics:
Device-1: AMD Ellesmere [Radeon RX 470/480/570/570X/580/580X/590] vendor: Micro-Star MSI
driver: amdgpu v: kernel pcie: speed: Unknown lanes: 63 ports: active: none
    empty: DP-1, DP-2, DVI-D-1, HDMI-A-1, HDMI-A-2 bus-ID: 01:00.0 chip-ID: 1002:67df
    class-ID: 0300
Device-2: AMD Picasso/Raven 2 [Radeon Vega Series / Radeon Mobile Series] vendor: ASUSTeK
driver: amdgpu v: kernel pcie: speed: 8 GT/s lanes: 16 ports: active: HDMI-A-3
    empty: DP-3,DVI-D-2 bus-ID: 07:00.0 chip-ID: 1002:15d8 class-ID: 0300
Are you using a VGA-HDMI cable? The GoldStar TV is showing as an HDMI connection and your RX 570 does show as having HDMI ports.
