BETA-TEST: Fastly repositories

Post by clem »

We are looking for BETA-Testers :)

We've got new ultra fast repositories, powered by Fastly.

We need many users to switch over to be able to test this properly.

If you are interested please visit https://github.com/linuxmint/linuxmint/issues/658 for information on how to participate.

Thank you.

To clarify, if you are already using a mirror service, you won't find http://packages.linuxmint.com if you follow the instructions and I suspect you won't see any benefit.

Example, the entry in my sources.list:

Code: Select all

deb https://www.mirrorservice.org/sites/packages.linuxmint.com/packages virginia main upstream import backport
Which is the University of Kent mirror service in the UK.

Indeed. You can identify that line by the fact that it has the following components:

Code: Select all

main upstream import backport
And then replace whatever hostname you have.. in your case..

Code: Select all

https://www.mirrorservice.org/sites/packages.linuxmint.com/packages
with..

Code: Select all

http://fastly.linuxmint.io

I'll get my system setup later today. I'll report back how the setup goes for a newbie such as myself.

A special thanks to those supporting the repository server(s).

I am getting error messages.

Code: Select all

Ign:6 http://fastly.linuxmint.io/linuxmint-packages virginia InRelease
Err:7 http://fastly.linuxmint.io/linuxmint-packages virginia Release
 404 Not Found [IP: 151.101.3.52 80]

Code: Select all

E: The repository 'http://fastly.linuxmint.io/linuxmint-packages virginia Release' does not have a Release file.
N: Updating from such a repository can't be done securely, and is therefore disabled by default.
The Update Manager is also showing an error that "Could not refresh the list of updates" and "Your APT configuration is corrupt."

Have I made a mistake somewhere?

Reason: replaced [c][/c] tag pairs by

tag pairs, they handle multi-line output properly

I think so. Check that the line you changed in /etc/apt/sources.list.d/official-package-repositories.list looks like the below:

Code: Select all

deb http://fastly.linuxmint.io virginia main upstream import backport

I think so. Check that the line you changed in /etc/apt/sources.list.d/official-package-repositories.list looks like the below:
Now working OK. I was on a local mirror for the Mint packages, deb https://mirror.ufs.ac.za/linuxmint-packages virginia main upstream import backport . I left the /linuxmint-packages part in, so it was reading deb http://fastly.linuxmint.io/linuxmint-packages virginia main upstream import backport. Perhaps this point could be made clearer on the GitHub page.

Anyway, many thanks for your assistance.

Will switch to http://fastly.linuxmint.io/ since https://fastly.linuxmint.io/ is giving me "Please switch to another mirror. https://fastly.linuxmint.io/ is unreachable."

Does this apply to all versions of LM? What about LMDE?
