<SOLVED>'ldconfig' not found in PATH or not executable

Post by Purkinje » Tue Apr 03, 2012 2:19 pm

I'm getting this error whenever I try to use apt-get in 64-bit Linux Mint 12. When I try to run this command:

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get -f install
This is the error that I get:

Code: Select all

Can't exec "locale": No such file or directory at /usr/share/perl5/Debconf/Encoding.pm line 16.
Use of uninitialized value $Debconf::Encoding::charmap in scalar chomp at /usr/share/perl5/Debconf/Encoding.pm line 17.
Preconfiguring packages ...
dpkg: warning: 'ldconfig' not found in PATH or not executable.
dpkg: error: 1 expected program not found in PATH or not executable.
Note: root's PATH should usually contain /usr/local/sbin, /usr/sbin and /sbin.
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (2)
I also ran the following command to see where ldconfig is located in my filesystem:

Code: Select all

sudo find / -name ldconfig
And this was the output:

Code: Select all

/var/cache/ldconfig
/var/lib/dpkg/triggers/ldconfig
Here's what PATH looks like on this system:

Code: Select all

/usr/lib/lightdm/lightdm:/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/games
Thanks for any help!

EDIT: I got a copy of ldconfig from a friend's ubuntu 64-bit box, copied it into /sbin, set the correct permissions, and voila! Problem solved!

I have absolutely no idea how that got deleted.
